One of the primary objectives of the city of Scottsdale Downtown Office is to market and promote the Downtown and to find creative and innovative ways to do so. Print media has limited shelf life, but the sidewalk decal has the ability to create daily and continuous interest and to improve pedestrians finding their way not only in the day, but also at night, through the reflectivity of the non-skid surface. One of the most successful programs the office has utilized is the sidewalk decal product that provides a colorful visual reminder about the more than 100 galleries in the Downtown Arts District as well as the weekly Thursday ArtWalk - a 30-year tradition. The results have been nothing short of spectacular - the decals have sparked renewed pride in the downtown and the application was so simple it was accomplished by office staff and volunteers. The highest compliments have come from the downtown merchants who see the unique and eye-catching decal as an indication that their presence is valued and the city is finding ways to support and draw traffic to the downtown.
